Project Summary

Blockages occurring in regenerators directly affect production efficiency in glass manufacturing facilities. At the Şişecam Polatlı TR7 furnace—constructed in 2014 by a different contractor—an unexpected blockage developed in the regenerator chambers after seven years of operation, significantly impacting production performance.

To restore regenerator efficiency, GTR was assigned to carry out the regenerator thermal cleaning service. During the implementation, a manual technique known as “poking” was applied. Long steel rods, referred to as “beks,” were inserted into the regenerator chambers in sets of three (inversion groups), enabling the controlled removal of obstructions within the clogged chambers.

This process requires both advanced technical expertise and strict adherence to occupational safety measures. GTR’s experienced field team successfully executed this demanding operation, opening all obstructed regenerator chambers and restoring the system’s operational performance.

Result

The work was completed safely and within the planned timeframe while the furnace remained in operation. This project demonstrated GTR’s technical proficiency in regenerator thermal cleaning and its strong commitment to Occupational Health and Safety practices. Following the intervention, the furnace’s production efficiency was fully recovered.
